When water reverses flow from it's intended direction, this can become a dangerous problem know as backflow. A cross-connection is the connection that links two separate systems of piping. One of the systems contains drinkable water and the other piping system contains water that may not be safe for consumption. If backflow occurs drinking water may become contaminated by water that is not designated for drinking.
